Update 4 Feb 2009: My foster dad tells me that I am a sweet but strong-willed little guy. I love being around people and being handled, although I am a little bit bossy sometimes and will need to be supervised when young children are handling me. I enjoy eating canteloupes and peppermint leaves.

Calloway here. I`m a male grey cockatiel with rather vivid colors: my wings and tail are a rich fuligin grey with cottony white accents, my beak is a charcoal grey and my face a bright chartreuse yellow. I was somebody`s pet and friend, or at least I thought that I was until my human took me to the vet for boarding and left me there! Good grief, that`s no way to treat a fellow. The vet took me to Tri-City Animal Shelter in Fremont. Like so many shelters in the Bay Area, Tri-City knows who to call when they get a colorful little guy like me in: Mickaboo!

So, about my name: I am the namesake of the big band leader Cab Calloway, whose music I love. I was scared on my trip from the shelter to my foster home but as soon as I heard a cover of "Minnie the Moocher" playing on the car stereo I began chirping along and making people sounds. Hey, I don`t know any words yet but I can sing scat with the best of them! I`m still a little nervous about my foster dad but we get along OK. He tells me very enthusiastically that I`m a good bird when I step onto his hand to visit with him. Of course, I know that I really am a good bird, so we agree on some things. My second night in foster care I got a mist bath, which felt really nice, and then I spent the rest of the evening preening myself. I feel much better now and I look pretty sharp, too.

Please check back on me as I settle in so you can see how I am doing. Thanks!
