Can you believe someone surrendered me to animal control?! How rude! I am Sweetpea, a lovely umbrella cockatoo and a complete lady (some would say "diva.") I can say "Hello Sweetpea" and "Hello Pea." I adore being scratched and petted, but please pay attention. I can get a bit pushy and if you stop the petting too soon, I might just express myself. My nips don`t break the skin, and you can put up with a small bruise, right? That`s just one reason I need a human partner who knows all about cockatoos and how to bring out the best in us, like my love of swaying and slow dancing with my human companion. I can be picky about what I eat, but I love those pellets! (For some reason, this makes my human friends very happy.) When I see mashed potatoes or spaghetti, though, I forget the pellets and make a pig of myself. At my temporary foster home, I was around another nice cockatoo, but I screamed a bit in competition for attention. Now that I`m getting the attention I deserve, I`m quieter. Still, I can imitate a hawk`s screech, only louder, if ignored! Study up a bit on how to handle this, and talk to me a lot, and we can work out the noise thing, I`m sure. You have to keep an eye on me anyway, or I`ll wander around the house and maybe find trouble. Like any intelligent creature, I need to keep busy. Are you ready to work on some lesson plans and recess activities for me? Story posted on: October 24, 2005
