Hi, I`m Mael, on the right, a little guy budgie who was rescued from an aviary situation in March 2020, along with my guy pals, when our owner could no longer care for us. The budgie sharing my profile pic is sadly deceased.

I eat a diet of Harrison pellets and seeds morning & afternoon. I am not that picky but am still scared of new things. But if you mix any new food in with my seed and pellets, I have the courage to try it. I also like lettuce & apples, tho I have a hard time taking those treats from a hand. Oh, I love millet from a hand just fine though!

I am not completely hand-tame but getting very close in my foster home. ! will now step up *most* of the time. If you call to me, I am happy to fly to your hand. I prefer that to the hand coming to me. If something spooks me, I will fly a couple laps around the room but will quickly settle down again.

I dont know any tricks yet but being food motivated really helps me learn. I think I`d do great with responsible kids and first-time bird adopters. Maybe you have the patience to help me when I join your forever home?

In nature, parakeets (budgerigars) live in large flocks. A single bird in a cage spends much of his/her life being lonely because humans have things they must do that take them away. We therefore will only adopt a single parakeet to a household if there is already at least one parakeet living there. Otherwise, parakeets must be adopted in groups of two or more.
