Don’t breed, don’t buy... adopt a rescued bird! Many have forgotten this truth, but you must not forget it.
FOSTER HOMES DESPERATELY NEEDED!!!
Mickaboo Companion Bird Rescue is a nonprofit, all-volunteer
organization in Northern California. We take in birds that need a safe
place to live, rehabilitate them if necessary, and find them good homes.
We also try to educate people how to live with companion birds and
inform them of the level of care necessary to provide the birds a safe,
healthy, permanent home.
Like most animal rescues in the United States, we are currently being
asked to take in more birds than ever, including strays and birds
surrendered to animal shelters, birds abandoned in houses after their
humans move away, and birds whose families can no longer care for them
due to unforeseen circumstances. In many cases, birds are brought to us
because their families cannot pay for desperately-needed veterinary care.
We want to continue to be able to take in every companion bird that
needs our help. But the one essential resource we must have in order
to do that is a foster home to care for him or her. Because we have
no central facility, no single refuge, our foster homes are the safe
places where new birds are cared for. Our supply of foster and adoptive
homes has improved a little, but more are needed.
The process for being approved as a foster home is the same as for being
approved as an adoptive home. If you would like to foster birds for
Mickaboo and help us work through this difficult time, please join us at
our next free bird care class. The schedule and locations of all of the
classes can be found on our website
here.
We need bird-loving people who want to change the world - one bird at a time.
If you are having behavior difficulties with your bird please consider contacting
us for assistance or attending our next advanced bird behavior class as an alternative
to surrendering your bird. Information on the next classes can be found
here.
